The SDMS has released a revised version of its guideline Sonographer Best Practices for Infection Prevention and Control: Reprocessing the Ultrasound Transducer. The document is an essential resource for sonographers and infection prevention staff, containing best practices for reprocessing ultrasound transducers.
The guidelines, compiled from evidence-based sources including official CDC guidance, outline the steps that sonographers should take before, during and after ultrasound procedures. Areas covered include identifying the level of sterilization/disinfection required based on the Spaulding classification, methods of disinfection, traceability and reprocessing workflow. It also covers factors that can potentially affect the efficacy of ultrasound reprocessing.
